Schools failing their health & safety grades
Many schools may be in breach of health and safety legislation, according to research from building services and compliance business Managed Support Services. The annual survey Health and Safety Performance at Schools found 78 per cent are not fully compliant with fire safety, a particular area of concern.

Yell in case of fire!
Just over half of survey respondents said they would evacuate a building “more quickly to a voice alarm” rather than a normal electronic buzzer alarm. Another third of the 140 respondents to the survey conducted this summer said they are not sure how they would react.

Lord Davies to lead gender inquiry
Business Minister Edward Davey and Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone made the announcement, saying that Lord Davies will develop a business strategy to boost the number of women at the top of listed companies.

Fewer businesses going bust, report says
Last month saw 1,542 UK businesses fail, down from 2,312 insolvencies recorded in July 2009, according to the latest Insolvency Index from Experian, the global information services company.

Activist halts Canadian university bunny cull
